Every photo booth vendor now publishes a “best photo booth software” list, and every one of those lists ranks its author first. Ours does too. The difference is in the columns: we show the plan you need before the AI works, the credits per photo on a current model, and what 300 AI photos cost all-in. Where a vendor’s marketing did not match its pricing page, we say so with the quote.
How we ranked
Nine apps that photo booth operators shortlist in 2026, checked on the vendor’s own pages. Rank order follows three questions: what does one AI photo cost once the plan and the credits are added up, what can guests actually do at the booth, and does the app run on hardware you already own. We did not rank on review counts, logo walls or “trusted by” strips, because none of them can be checked.

The ranking
1. AI Photobooth: best for AI events
AI Photobooth is the only product in this list that includes AI photos in the monthly price: €99 a month, 300 AI photos, 5 booths, extra photos €0.33. One photo costs 1 credit whatever the model, Google Nano Banana, Nano Banana Pro or OpenAI GPT Image 2.5, at 1K or 2K. Guests get face swap, custom prompts, style transfer, virtual try-on (3 credits), product placement, AI video, singing photos and Snapchat filters, and the same account runs the Windows app with a DSLR, an Android tablet or an iPad.
Prefer to pay once? Starter €19 (50 credits), Pro €99 (200 credits), Enterprise €799 (1,600 credits, white-label). Free account with 3 AI photos, no card, no watermark.
Where it loses: no 360, mirror or robot-arm modes. Younger than Snappic or dslrBooth. Try-on costs 3 credits.
2. LumaBooth / dslrBooth: best for DSLR purists
The Windows edition (dslrBooth) is $17 a month billed yearly or $49.99 monthly; the Apple and Android editions are $18 yearly or $19.99 monthly, two devices included. AI portraits are sold on top at about $0.10 each. For one small event a month, the cheapest AI in this list.
Where it loses: AI means restyled portraits only, 170+ presets and custom text. No face swap, no try-on, no product placement, no AI video. One subscription per platform.
3. Simple Booth: best for the fastest iPad setup
Core is $49 a month with no AI. AI effects start on Plus at $99, guest-typed prompts need Pro at $149. Credits cost $0.10, with 1, 2 or 3 credits per photo depending on the Nano Banana model, and each plan grants 50 to 250 credits once at signup. The 7-day trial gives 25 credits. Simple Booth is also the only vendor here with a written 30-day refund policy.
Where it loses: 300 current-model photos cost $99 plus $60 to $90 a month. iPad only. An extra device is $74 a month on Plus.
4. Snappic: best for 360 and premium iPad rentals
Plans run from $69 (Starter) to $399 (Scale), but AI Effects, VideoFX and face swap need Business at $189 a month. Credits cost $0.10 at 1 to 6 per image, no plan includes any, and the 14-day trial ships with 0 credits and watermarked photos. The upside is the ecosystem: iPad, 360, mirror, robot arm, DSLR and roaming setups, SmartShare face matching, competitions.
Where it loses: $189 a month before the first AI photo. The credit cost per filter only appears inside the paid dashboard. iPad only, USD pricing, extra booth $109 a month.
5. Activation King: best for the most booth modes
Twelve booth modes (360, GlamBot arm, mirror, GIF, green screen, mosaic wall, drawing screen) on Windows, Mac, iPad and Android, 2 devices per plan. Starter is $49 a month and has no AI. AI needs Pro AI at $79 promo ($99 regular) or Ultimate AI at $149 promo ($199 regular). Credits cost $25 per 1,000, which sounds cheap until the credit table: 6 to 42 credits per AI photo depending on the model and resolution, 30 to 60 per AI video, and no plan includes any. 300 photos at 1K on a current model add $75 to the plan; the same 300 at 4K on Nano Banana Pro add $315.
Three things in the vendor’s own “honest guide” did not match its other pages. The guide lists the AI product “from $49/mo”, the plan that has no AI. The guide says “50+ AI effects”, the pricing page says “120+ AI styles”. The guide cites “114 reviews, ~5.0”; the homepage shows 30 reviews and the App Store listing says the app “hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview”. Where it loses: the real cost per photo. No real-time video, no try-on, no product placement. The checkout showed no VAT line for an EU address.
6. Touchpix: best for European 360 operators
Dutch, EUR pricing, unlimited devices: PhotoPass EUR 45.09 a month (2 active events), MultiPass EUR 90.20, MultiPass Pro EUR 144.32, Enterprise EUR 225.50. Photo AI has 80+ styles and custom prompts; credits cost EUR 14.76 per 100 or EUR 60.27 per 500, some styles use more than one, and the trial gives 15.
Where it loses: portrait styles only, no face swap, try-on or product placement. The pricing page does not say whether VAT is included.
7. RightBooth: best one-time licence on Windows
$75 ex VAT, once, for one computer, lifetime use with 12 months of updates; $189 for up to 6 instances on one machine. Windows 10 and 11 only. AI comes as free local background removal and face swap plus integrations with Nano Banana and Flux models; the buy page lists no price for the cloud models.
Where it loses: hands-on to configure, no Mac, no tablets, no cloud galleries in the box.
8. SparkBooth: cheapest lifetime licence
$149 for Premium (webcams up to 4K) or $189 for the DSLR edition, Windows and macOS, three activations, 30-day watermarked trial. SparkBooth’s own page says AI transformations are included in both editions. Activation King’s ranking describes SparkBooth’s AI as “third-party only”; the vendor page says otherwise.
Where it loses: basic feature set, no tablets, no cloud sharing beyond the basics.
9. Pictor: lowest entry ticket on iPad
Basic at $49 a month, free builds without a card, AI paid in tokens that fall to about $0.07 at volume. No tokens included, so 300 photos add $30 to $120, and Pictor takes 2 to 10 percent of your photo sales depending on the plan.
Where it loses: the commission, iPad only, thin AI feature set.

Only one row includes AI photos every month. On five of the nine, the price per photo depends on which model produced it, and that table only appears after signup.
Three claims to check before you believe any ranking, including this one
- “From $X a month” next to an AI product. Ask whether that plan includes the AI. At Snappic, Simple Booth and Activation King the cheapest plan does not.
- “Credits from $0.025”. Ask how many credits one photo costs on the model you will actually use in 2026. The answer ranges from 1 to 42.
- Review counts and user counts. Ask for the link. A number that changes between a vendor’s blog, homepage and app store listing is a marketing number, not a measurement.
